I was visiting Wilmington from on a Friday from out of town and noticed my break pads making an awful grinding sound. MobileTech was able to prioritize my vehicle's maintenance day of without a prior appointment, and had my dangerous situation fixed by the end of the day before they closed for the weekend. Thank you so much for your care and communication and SPEED- shoutout to Michael you are the real MVP.

Sarah, So glad we hit all your expectations and than some! Thank you for taking the time to leave us such a nice review. If we can ever help you in the future with anything please don’t hesitate to reach out to us! Thank you! David Friend Owner/Technician

It’s all about the up sale. Go in for an inspection and they tell you you need over $500 worth of work done. Like “cleaning the injectors”. I’m not going back! Reply to reply. Wow, way to play the victim. My “bullying” was apparently saying “really, the tint is too dark? You passed it last year.” The conversation about the tint where I mentioned being a retired LEO came later at the shop after I had paid and was on my way out. Your tech told me that tint darkens over time and that is why it passed last year. I pointed out that tint only darkens during the adhesive cure stage (first few months) and that after that it actually lightens with age and that this tint being ten years old it can’t be darkening. To which he replied that he gets training every year. This is when I mentioned that as a LEO I too was trained and that he should maybe consult 3M who makes the tint before he makes inaccurate statements. If the tint is too dark I’ll have it removed never did I bully or try to get your guy to pass a vehicle that wasn’t right. I was just questioning why he had passed it last year and why it had never been an issue until now. As for your reports that show service history on a car I call BS. You have no idea when or if I cleaned or replaced my injectors. And I was never asked I was just told “bad news” your car needs this work done. Call it what you want but I call it taking advantage of uneducated vehicle owners.

I won’t go back and fourth, I heard what I heard and I spoke to my staff, it was enough to know where this review came from. You’re correct, we don’t know, that’s why it was recommended based off mileage and that’s why they asked you if you ever had it done. I have it recorded, there’s audio camera in the office. Either way, you just validated everything I said below. Thanks you again, please continue to add to this review as the more details you give the better it is for potential customers to see exactly what to expect when they come, through, consistent and transparent. I encouraged all of my staff to thumbs up this one and anyone else reading it. Reviews like this are great! *** Update to my response After speaking to tech and advisor it seems we failed your state inspection for 15% window tint, which is illegal in North Carolina. I just listened to the audio of the cameras and phone. I am a bit shocked that a former law enforcement officer would attempt to bully someone into breaking the law for them. Which I clearly heard you attempt. This review seems to be just more of that. I’m disappointed to hear you would attempt to get not only me a misdemeanor charge but put both me as the inspection station owner and technician as the inspector in a legal situation that can result in losing our drivers license, CCW, hunting license and any other state issue licenses which would include heavy fines for us… all because you were a former LEO and you want your tint to pass. 🤪 Well, we are through and recommend services or repairs based off industry standard intervals, OEM service intervals, and actual condition. We check CarFax service history and then your actual service and make recommendations based off of this. We use transparent software and provide documentation, pictures, videos when possible and any other materials or information to inform the customer on vehicle repairs and maintenance. As a shop owner, I would rather get hundreds of 1 star reviews then have you write a bad review about how you were just in for service and two months later had a issue because we didn’t properly look your vehicle over and make a recommendation for a service or repair. Of course no good deed ever goes unpunished and keeping a consistent standard of properly inspecting vehicles regularly will always have people caught off guard when they aren’t used to having qualified professionals service their vehicles. So I totally get it. Thank you again for the feedback and letting everyone know that during a inspection of the vehicle we are actually doing it. We never pressures anyone to service or repair anything, we simply let you know what it needs, how much, and what the warranty is. No one working for MobileTech cares if you do not properly maintain your vehicle. It is your responsibility, so don’t ever be get upset when you face large repairs that regular scheduled maintenance prevents. It’s not a good look on the other side of the counter. It took you more time and effort to leave this review than to just say “I don’t want to do anything else”. Which of course is your choice in the matter. I will be thanking the technician and advisor you worked with for doing their jobs to the high standards we set as a company. David Friend Owner/Technician & Instructor Again, thank you for highlighting our thoroughness.

Prices are very high

Paid $165 for a diagnostic, picked up vehicle immediately, and I would never return.

Could you elaborate? Also can you provide me with either the VIN, license plate or another name the vehicle would be under because there is no one in our system under the name you posted the review under.

Called MobileTech and spoke with Mark regarding a high quote to repair a brake system failure in a Toyota Prius from Toyota of ilm across the street. He laughed and was on the same page that it was a no brainer MobileTech would be the better, more affordable option. They ran another diagnostic as they pushed the blah blah blah of why It was imperative that they understand exactly what was wrong and that the diagnostic performed an hour earlier from Toyota may have been faulty. They had the exact same findings as Toyota of ilm. The only difference in the quotes was price. Toyota of ilm was $2100, MobileTech was $2400. Diagnostic from Toyota was $125, diagnostic from MobileTech was $160. I was transparent in pricing discrepancy and they did not care, didn’t seem to want the business anyway. Long story short, brake pump & booster are being replaced at Toyota of ilm right now and their businesses op cost increased by $2000 by utilizing common sense. I offered a 5 star review for a small discount on diagnostic, Mark said he could not oblige, which is totally fine, but it did opt my personal review clause policy to write this transparent honest review instead of a fluff 5 star review.

Well, Wayne I’m certainly glad Mark insisted we diagnose it. If I had $5 dollars for every misdiagnosed vehicle that arrives from a dealership. I could have passed that savings on to you. Murphy’s law tells me if we didn’t diagnose it and we just quoted you, I’d be on the hook for thousands in repairs that didn’t fix the problem. Learned this lesson a decade ago. I’m also glad he didn’t budge on the price, because we prefer to compare apples to apples. My warranty on this repair is 3x what Toyota offers, nationwide, which includes towing and rental. That entire dealership combined couldn’t hold a candle to my tiny staff which I assure you are much more qualified and better trained then the franchise Toyota dealership with the highest turnover rate in the country… Standing behind our work for 3 years, no matter what happens along way has a value. Another big difference are the high failure, high dollar parts are specially priced for dealerships as “goodwill” and isn’t passed on to wholesale buyers like independent shops, that means they pay significantly less. Anyone reading this, if you want a better price from Toyota of Wilmington, I’m the only shop in town that in writing they will price match and beat. If you called them and just told them we told you $1900, I bet they’d do it for $1800. Thanks for the honest review and kudos to Mark for standing his ground and delivering what I feel was proper service and proper pricing inline with the qaulity of work, qualified staff and warranty we provide. Should you ever need for our services or a second opinion, at-least you know you’ll get a honest one.
